Book’s website

From the back of the book:

Who are you? Where did you come from? Are you being told the truth? How does what you believe link you to the world’s worst mass murderers, being judged by the color of your skin, super babies of the future, and today’s school curriculum?

Mere generations ago, a man named Charles Darwin introduced his Theory of Evolution which permeates today’s society. Its premise is that some groups of people are less evolved than others and, therefore, inferior. As a result, millions have died when targeted by race, class or disability.

There are those who say that this same philosophy, that helped fuel Hitler’s ovens, has crept into America’s school system when no one was watching. Others contend that evolution, which was rooted in racist and class elitism and is today being taught, makes some of us superior and more “fit” to live on the planet. Are you fit enough? Is your family fit enough? Who survives? Who decides?

In America, are we one nation under God or one nation under Darwin? As two worldviews of race and class collide, it is time to decide what you believe regardless of your social status or the color of your skin.

This books does a fabulous job of pointing out the flaws in Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. They delve into many areas that some scientists have claimed as fact when, in fact, they have not been proven to be so – they are ideas that are pure speculation. They also do a great job pointing out many problems that have arisen, not only in our society, but in other societies of the world since Darwin first presented his theory.

There are many great quotes in this book, there are two I’d love to share here.

Spurgeon quickly noted a double standard that was pro-evolution and anti-creation and used sarcasm to criticize Darwin’s unproven theory. In his monthly magazine, The Sword and the Trowel, Spurgeon wrote the following to all those who recognized God as Creator.

“You are not to be dogmatic in theology, but for scientific men it is the correct thing. You are never to assert anything very strongly; but scientists may boldly assert what they cannot prove, which may demand a faith more credulous than any we possess.” Charles Spurgeon

With what he calls almost seemingly endless attacks on religion – through lawsuits, misleading television programs and a bias towards the faith of Darwinism, Author and President of Amerisearch, William J. Federer sees an alarming irony.

“Religion provides social order and tolerance for all people. Now, in America, everyone is tolerated except the ones who came up with the idea.”

These are just two of many great thoughts shared in this book. If you are interested in learning about how the Theory of Evolution has shaped our world this book is a great book for you to read. It is packed full of great information and great quotes. (If you are interested, you can click on the title above and it will take you to Amazon to purchase the book.)

I do have to add one negative because I’m a bit of a grammar freak. When using quotation marks the rule is that periods and commas ALWAYS go inside of the quotation marks. It doesn’t matter if the quotation marks are part of the whole sentence or just around one word at the end – they ALWAYS go inside the quotation marks. Numerous times in the book the authors have commas and periods outside of the quotation marks. I know, I know – you’re probably thinking, “Who cares!” Well, I’m sorry, but I do.

July 24, 2009
By Ben Stein

We’ve Figured Him Out

Why is President Barack Obama in such a hurry to get his socialized medicine bill passed?

Because he and his cunning circle realize some basic truths:

The American people in their unimaginable kindness and trust voted for a pig in a poke in 2008. They wanted so much to believe Barack Obama was somehow better and different from other ultra-leftists that they simply took him on faith.

They ignored his anti-white writings in his books. They ignored his quiet acceptance of hysterical anti-American diatribes by his minister, Jeremiah Wright.

They ignored his refusal to explain years at a time of his life as a student. They ignored his ultra-left record as a “community organizer,” Illinois state legislator, and Senator.

The American people ignored his total zero of an academic record as a student and teacher, his complete lack of scholarship when he was being touted as a scholar.

Now, the American people are starting to wake up to the truth. Barack Obama is a super likeable super leftist, not a fan of this country, way, way too cozy with the terrorist leaders in the Middle East, way beyond naïveté, all the way into active destruction of our interests and our allies and our future.

The American people have already awakened to the truth that the stimulus bill — a great idea in theory — was really an immense bribe to Democrat interest groups, and in no way an effort to help all Americans.

Now, Americans are waking up to the truth that ObamaCare basically means that every time you are sick or injured, you will have a clerk from the Department of Motor Vehicles telling your doctor what he can and cannot do.

The American people already know that Mr. Obama’s plan to lower health costs while expanding coverage and bureaucracy is a myth, a promise of something that never was and never will be — a bureaucracy lowering costs in a free society. Either the costs go up or the free society goes away.

These are perilous times. Mrs. Hillary Clinton, our Secretary of State, has given Iran the go-ahead to have nuclear weapons, an unqualified betrayal of the nation. Now, we face a devastating loss of freedom at home in health care. It will be joined by controls on our lives to “protect us” from global warming, itself largely a fraud if believed to be caused by man.

Mr. Obama knows Americans are getting wise and will stop him if he delays at all in taking away our freedoms.

There is his urgency and our opportunity. Once freedom is lost, America is lost. Wake up, beloved America.

Ben Stein is a writer, actor, economist, and lawyer living in Beverly Hills and Malibu. He writes “Ben Stein’s Diary” for every issue of The American Spectator.

If you have kids at home and you want them to be aware of what’s going on around the world I would highly encourage you to spend time teaching them about current events. One of the ways that we do this is with a magazine called God’s World News. It’s a fabulous magazine full of stories about people and countries all over the world as well as information about things going on in our own country. I would highly recommend it! They have four different levels geared towards four different age groups.

This month’s issue has a section about Marxism, Communism, and Socialism and dictators who use these forms of government. The country we read about today was Zimbabwe and it’s heartbreaking to read about it. Robert Mugabe is the President of this country and he has basically driven this country into the ground with the practices he has used to run the country. For example, until recently it was illegal for the residents of this country to withdraw more than a very small amount of money from their own bank accounts. The limit has been raised to $20,000 a day. Now before you get excited and think that that’s great for them let me tell you how much that’s worth – about 2 U.S. pennies. Yes, you read that right – it takes $20,000 to equal 2 pennies in the U.S. And that’s all the money they can get to each day.

Mugabe was recently defeated in an election for new leaders but he has refused to step down. He has agreed to “share” the job with the person that won the election though. If you have a minute or if you think about their country during your day please say a prayer for this country. Those people deserve so much better than that. They used to be one known as the “breadbasket” of Africa because their country was so productive and now they are the poorest nation in all of Africa.

That’s the title of the series that our pastor preached the few weeks prior to the election. I wrote another post earlier about this topic and if you read that you’ll know that our church is participated in what’s called the Pulpit Initiative where pastors spoke the truth about the Presidential candidates from the pulpit. (I would encourage you to use that link and read what it’s about. It’s actually very interesting!) I think it’s a great thing that they’re doing too.

The founders of our country wrote into the Constitution that:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

Many of us are very familiar with the 1st Amendment but read it again, this time looking for the group that is restricted by the Amendment. Did you find it? It’s Congress – not the people, not Christians, not churches – Congress. The first Amendment of the Constitution says “Congress shall make no law…”

Before the mid-twentieth century, pastors spoke out about Presidential candidates. They were not silenced by the government and were able to speak their minds clearly and share their opinions about Presidential candidates. They had freedom of speech. They examined these men based on Scripture and decided who was the better candidate based on their morality – their Christian walk if you will. If they were sinful men they pointed that out to their congregations so that they were aware of who they could be electing. This was completely legal and they had no problem with it.

In 1954 everything changed with what is called the Johnson Amendment. When L. B. Johnson was a United States Senator, he was trying to get re-elected and there were a couple of non-profit organizations that were saying that Johnson was pro-communist. In order to try to silence these groups he included a little paragraph in a tax law that was being rewritten. This tax law was never discussed on the Senate floor, it was never sent to committee and debated, it was never checked to see if it was constitutional. He simply presented it with this tax law and it became law. Through this Pulpit Initiative they are attempting to get this law removed and give freedom of speech back to pastors.

Many will say that pastors have no business preaching about politics from the pulpit – that there is “separation between church and state.” It continually amazes me that people throw that phrase out as if religion has no right to be anywhere in the public arena or in any government area. First of all, IT’S NOT EVEN IN THE CONSITUTION! That phrase was written by Thomas Jefferson in a private letter to the Baptists of Danbury, Connecticut, in 1802. The original meaning and intent was nothing like what people use it for today. When Thomas Jefferson used that phrase he was reassuring the men he was writing to that the government would not establish a state denomination. That’s it. He wasn’t saying that religion could play no role in the government. On the contrary, our founding fathers used Scripture for the foundation of the laws they created for this land. It was a part of who they were and it is seen in every aspect of what they did to establish this country.

Another reason that people give for their belief that pastors should not speak about politics is that it’s their own belief and it shouldn’t be taught from the pulpit. They say that that’s using a church for political use and that’s not allowed by the tax law. Our pastor shared a great story illustrating why it’s not “freedom of speech” for a pastor to be told he can believe whatever he wants but he needs to keep it to himself – that he can’t share his beliefs with his congregation. He was talking to a reporter and he asked her, “What if the government told you that you could write any kind of story you want. You can type it up, print it out, but then you have to keep it to yourself. Just read the article to yourself. Would you consider that freedom of the press?” Of course the answer was no! But that’s what the government is saying to pastors – they can believe whatever they want, but when it comes to anything that has anything to do with government or politics they have to keep it to themselves. That, my friends, is not freedom of speech!

The 1st Amendment protects the people. It gives us free exercise of religion, free speech, freedom of the press, the right to gather peaceably, and the right to petition the government. The Johnson Amendment contradicts the 1st Amendment and so should be stricken from the tax law. I hope that the people running the Pulpit Iniative are successful. Pastors need to be able to share with their congregations what God puts on their hearts in regards to political issues. They don’t have to require the congregation to agree with them but they should definitely be able to share it with them!

Now that Obama has won, we need to do everything we can to prevent the Freedom of Choice Act from becoming a reality. I agree that you should have the freedom to choose whether or not you want to have children but the way to do that is with abstinence or birth control – not abortion. Nobody should have the choice to take another’s life. If a woman has a baby and then when that baby is a month old she decides she can’t handle motherhood and doesn’t want to have a child any more do we allow her to kill the baby? NO!! She would be prosecuted for murder and people would be horrified that anyone could do such a thing! But every day women decide that they can’t handle motherhood and decide they don’t want to have a child and so they kill their child – but because it’s before the child has been born we call it abortion and it’s okay. There is definitely something wrong with that picture!

Please go here and sign the petition against the Freedom of Choice Act. Protect the babies and even the women who are victims of this. And yes, the women are victims in this as well. They have been told a lie that their lives will go back to normal and they’ll be just fine if they just get rid of the baby. It’s not true. It will haunt most women until the day they die. In fact, the suicide rate among women who have had abortions is fairly high. So please, pray for our nation, pray for our leaders, and pray for these women who are in these situations that they will choose life!

(Thanks to Neil for the link to the petition!)
