Today's thoughts

Posted by: momlovesbeingathome | Comments (5)

I haven’t really had the time (or the desire for some reason) to sit down and blog the last few days.  Just to let you know I’m still alive though here are a few thoughts.  ;)

I can’t believe Carly and Seyesha were in the bottom two last night on American Idol.  I especially can’t believe Carly went home.  She was one of my favorites.  I really think it’s going to come down to the Davids though.  Both of them are amazing!!

I’m sad that Biggest Loser won’t be back on until October.  :(

Speaking of October, we have a new Target and JCPenny going in and it’s supposed to open in October!  YEA!

At the complex where I coach softball and my daughter plays, I think we have the worst umps in the world.  Sometimes I get so mad I just want to scream in their faces.  (And sometimes worse.) I can totally see why some of those MLB coaches do that sometimes!  It totally frustrates me to see the umps take it away from the girls by making really bad calls.

We’ve had some lovely spring weather recently.  All my flowers and plants are coming in really well and I have lots of really pretty flowers blooming.

My daughter got braces this week and it wasn’t too bad at first but her mouth got really swollen on the second evening and she’s having a hard time eating and talking because of it.  She only got the first 6 brackets put on her top teeth.  Now she has to have four teeth pulled and then every 6 weeks get some more put on.  Eventually she’ll have them all.  If you think of her please pray for her though.  She’s doing pretty well but it’s really rubbing on the inside of her top lip and bothering her.

My son is in a football camp this week and is having a really good time.  He’s never played football before so it’s new to him but he’s doing great.  They are working them pretty hard so he’s pretty sore.  Every time he gets up he kind of moans about it.  It’s kind of funny to watch.  (Don’t worry, he’s laughing too.   )

Used book sales for homeschoolers in our area start this week!!  I’m so excited!  I LOVE going to these.  I never know what kind of awesome deal I’ll find there.  :)

This is basically our last week of school.  YIPPEE!!!  We are pretty excited and ready to be finished.  My son still has a little bit of math and science to finish but I think other than that we’ll finish by next Tuesday.

Well, I guess that’s enough thoughts for now.  Hope everyone is having a fabulous day!

My garden

Posted by: momlovesbeingathome | Comments (15)

Thanks to MommyZabs for the step by step instructions on putting pictures on here!! I told you a few days ago that I would post pictures of my garden so here it is!

This picture was taken when we bought the house a year ago:

Before the garden

This was taken about a week or two ago:

The garden!

And this one also:

another view of the garden

This one was taken today – I was trying to get the same shot as the first picture. As you can see my tree is a little bigger and got in the way for part of it. :)

I recently attended a conference where Jeff Myers, of Passing the Baton International, was the keynote speaker. If you ever have the opportunity to hear him speak you should!! He was fantastic! He had several sessions that I attended, the main one being Passing the Baton – a message you can purchase from his website. The blurb on the website for this message says, “ In three years of earthly ministry, Jesus took twelve ordinary men, trained them to change the world, and they did it. On this recording we’ll look at the seven things Jesus did-and trained his followers to do-to personally and intentionally equip culture-shaping leaders. This eye-opening talk has mobilized audiences around the world to rise up and embrace Jesus’ life-on-life model of discipling all nations of the earth.” Here are the 7 things he lists:

1. Jesus led based on total obedience to God

2. Jesus led based on his anointing

3. Jesus led based on his deep love for his followers

4. Jesus led based on his intercession for them

5. Jesus led based on his trust in God’s work in them

6. Jesus led based on his transparent with-ness (yes that’s how that’s supposed to read :) )

7. Jesus led based on primary concern for character development.

At the conference he was speaking to us as parents and how to teach our children. We need to be leading and equipping our children to be Christian leaders in their world. If our children aren’t equipped to be leaders then they will more than likely become followers of the world. That doesn’t necessarily mean that they all have to go out and be nationally recognized leaders but they do need to know how to stand up for what they believe, how to define what they believe, how to defend what they believe, and how to stick to what they believe. They will very easily be persuaded to the other side of we don’t do our jobs and teach them well!

He has a great recommended reading list that he shared. I’ve found several at the library and have been looking through them. There are some really good books on the list! I would recommend checking them out!

Spring storms

Posted by: momlovesbeingathome | Comments (9)

I like rain. But when it rains and rains and rains and rains I get tired of it! That’s how it’s been around here for the last week. We’ve had several sporting events cancelled for our kids because of the rain. My yard and my garden are underwater – my poor iris are drowning!!! It makes me sleepy and it’s starting to get depressing! I’m ready for the sun to shine again. I’ve almost forgotten what it looks like! haha! I don’t know how people in places like Seattle and London live with this kind of weather all the time! I’ve heard that they don’t have the heavy rainfall as much as just drizzle though and it’s been POURING here.

Spring can be interesting where I live because of thunderstorms and tornadoes. We get more tornadoes here than any other place on earth. Amazing! We had our first close one yesterday. I’m in the kitchen trying to get dinner ready, my son starts yelling at the dog for peeing in the house (something he usually never does! – the dog that is, not my son), and the tornado siren is going off. FUN! We immediately turned on the tv to see where the tornado was and thankfully it was north of us and moving north so we were out of the path of danger. Good thing since I had a puddle to clean up! Still, when I hear those sirens my heart kind of drops a little! As I’m writing this I am listening to buckets of rain pouring outside and we are in a tornado watch. Hopefully we don’t have a repeat of yesterday!
