I'm still alive!
By…for any of you who might have noticed I’ve been gone.
This is such a busy time of year for us. I just haven’t taken much time to sit at the computer and read or write.
My oldest has finished her freshman year of high school since I was last on here! Woohoo! I can’t believe I have a sophomore now!
My youngest is finishing up his math and science and then he’ll be finished as well. He’s heading into 8th grade. So, that means one more year and then I’ll have TWO high schoolers! It’s just unbelievable to me! They grow up so fast.
Speaking of my daughter moving into her sophomore year – that means she’s at that age where she can begin driving. We went to the DMV today to get her permit. I think those people must take classes on how to help people as slowly as possible. I mean seriously! We were there for almost THREE HOURS just to take a stinkin’ test! We even went in the morning thinking it wouldn’t be as busy. But boy was I wrong! I didn’t think we were ever going to get out of there. And then, bless her heart, she didn’t pass the test. She only missed a few I think but considering there are only twenty questions you really can’t miss many. A couple of them were really dumb questions, in my opinion. Things that had nothing to do with driving even! The good thing is that she can try again tomorrow. Good for her anyway – not so good that we have to sit there again! UGH! She was in tears when she came out today so I really hope that tomorrow is a better day.
On a good note though, I had to take her to get an 8th grade reading proficiency test last week in order for her to take the written test for her permit and when the lady finished grading that test she came out with this look of awe on her face and asked how many we thought she missed. She only missed one on that test (out of 50) and the lady was really impressed. She said in all the years she’s been giving this test she’s only had one who made a 100%. Most, she said, miss quite a few. I was pretty proud of her.
She’s so funny though because she’s such a perfectionist when it comes to her school work – and especially tests – that she was mad at herself for missing one! haha! She said it’s almost worse that she got that close to a 100 than if she’d missed several.
Well, I’m hoping to be able to share some great stuff with you later this week. I went to our state homeschool convention last weekend and heard some great speakers and they had some great information. As soon as I have time I’ll come back and share it with you. Hope you all are doing well!

Good luck with the driving lessons! I’m about to start the same adventure with my freshman.
Thanks, Neil! I hope yours goes well too.
If it makes your daughter feel better, I barely based the written driving tests. There were a whole bunch of questions related to the fines for drunk driving, etc.- which I hadn’t bothered to memorize what the fines for driving illegally were!- and so, I barely passed. The test was pretty ridiculous, in my opinion.
However, I did fail my actual driving test the first time….which is a story I think I might actually blog about.
Yeah, I agree – the questions they put on the test are pretty ambiguous and somewhat ridiculous! We went back today though and she passed this time! She’s official now.
Thanks for giving her encouragement!
Good to have you back. Hope all is going better for your daughter with the braces!
So sorry about the driving test. She must be bummed!
Thanks, Debbie! My daughter is doing very well with the braces now. Thanks for asking! All is well with the driving test too – she passed it the second time and she got to drive for the first time yesterday. She did really well too. I was very proud of her.
Hey girl, left you a tag over at my blog!
