What I'm reading…
ByIt’s been quite awhile since I’ve shared what I’m reading (actually it’s been quite awhile since I’ve had time to read!) and I always enjoy hearing what others are reading so I figure if I like it surely someone else does too.
So, here’s what’s beside my bed right now:
First and foremost, The Daily Bible: New International Version: With Devotional Insights to Guide You Through God’s Word. I love this Bible because not only does it have some commentary in it to give explanations of some things but it’s in chronological order so you can read the Bible in the order that it occurred.
Sister Freaks: Stories of Women Who Gave Up Everything for God by Rebecca St. James
This is a really neat book about sixty women – both contemporary and historical – and their stories of living their lives completely for God.
Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven, but Nobody Wants to Die: Or the Eschatology of Bluegrass by David Crowder with Mike Hogan
I haven’t started this one but I read David Crowder’s last book and it was pretty good so I’m going to see what this one’s like.
Cassidy (Big Sky Dreams #1) by Lori Wick
I’ve read most of the books she’s written and they’ve all been really good! If you are looking for a good inspirational fiction book to read any of hers would be great!
Great Lives: Fascinating Stories of Forgotten Lives by Charles Swindoll
A great way to go a little more in depth about people in the Bible.
The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax by Dorothy Gilman
A new blogging friend of mine, dandelionmom, recommended this series so I grabbed one from the library and I’m anxious to see what she’s all about.
Hinds’ Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard
This was another recommendation, this time by my blogging friend Mommy Zabs.
A Voice in the Wind (Mark of the Lion #1)by Francine Rivers
A friend loaned me this series and I’ve started the first one but I haven’t made it very far into it. My friend said these books are really good!!
This one I just finished but if you want something that’s a quick read, humorous, and inspirational then you must read If You Can’t Lose It, Decorate It: And Other Hip Alternatives to Dealing With Realityby Anita Renfroe. It’s one of the best books I’ve read in a while!!
Whew! That’s quite a pile of books I’ve got going isn’t it!?!? I better get busy on one.
What about you? What are you reading?

I keep saying to myself that I need to get some Charles Swindoll books. I enjoy the bits and pieces I hear of his sermons on the radio.
He’s got some good stuff! He has a series of books about particular people in the Bible and from what I’ve read and heard those are good too.
Ok, you have a really big nightstand
It’s so funny because I have bookmarks in so many books it seems silly. Some have been in there way to long!!!
P.S. – The discussion on John McCain was interesting huh?
I feel guilty recommending Mrs.Polifax when you have Hind’s Feet on High Places sitting there too!! Save Mrs. P for when you can’t think deeply and absorb things-when you need diversion-NOT enlightenment–maybe a bubblebath? She is great fun for a mystery lover but Hernard really lifts the spirits!
Lori Wick is one of my favorite authors. I wish I had time to read. It’s been a couple of months since I’ve gotten into a really good book.
Debbie, yes, I don’t have a typical “nightstand” – it’s a chest but my stack of books is kind of tall sometimes.
I haven’t actually started all of these so I guess I should have said what I’m going to read.
Yes, that discussion was interesting to say the least!
dandelionmom, you have nothing to feel guilty about!!!
That’s my favorite genre to read!! I’m thrilled to find a new mystery author to read. I had to get the oil changed on my car yesterday and took that with me to read but they were really fast so I only got in a few pages! I’m looking forward to reading more.
Janeen, I’m right there with ya! It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to just sit down and read. I kind of go through phases and I’ll read a ton of books and then go weeks without reading anything. I’m trying to get myself back into a reading phase – which is why I stocked up on some good books to read.
Have you read Angela Hunt or Randy Alcorn (of Eternal Perspective Ministries, epm.org)? They’re two of my favorite Christian authors.
Randy’s the author of Heaven (a fantastic non-fiction book about heaven) and several other wonderful Christian fiction novels (Deadline, Dominion, Deception, Safely Home, Lord Foulgrin’s Letters, etc.).
A couple of my faves of Angela’s are The Debt (a very unique view on what ministry can be) and The Shadow Women (the story of Moses from the perspective of his Egyptian mother, Miriam, and Zipporah). She’s a fantastic writer and you can’t go wrong with any of her books.
Then of course there’s James Scott Bell and Robert Whitlow (Christian lawyers turned authors).
Stephen R. Lawhead also has an amazing historical fiction book called Byzantium that was completely engrossing.
Hey, Joy! I’ve read some of James Scott Bell but he’s the only one out of the ones you listed. I’ll have to check those all out! Thanks for sharing!
dandelionmom, I finished Mrs. Pollifax last night.
It was really good!
YAY! I am glad you liked it! I like to picture myself as Mrs. P. when I get older (I need better hats tho!)–I would probably end up traveling the country fixing baking mishaps instead of rescuing spies tho!
Yes, I’m anxious to read the next one now! I LOVE it when authors do a series and carry the same character through a bunch of books.
